Position:

The LACCD is accepting applications for Respiratory Therapy Instructor- Associate of Arts, Adjunct position for both East Los Angeles College and Los Angeles Valley College for the 2026 Academic School Year. The purpose of this posting is to create a pool of qualified applicants so that when there is an actual opening at a one of our colleges, the college can then begin their review process by reviewing those applicants. The LACCD is seeking dynamic, motivated and diverse candidates for part-time faculty positions to engage and educate our students. Successful candidates will collaborate, communicate and work as professionals with students, staff, faculty and administrators. Applicants with a demonstrated commitment to teaching and mentoring a diverse student population are strongly encouraged to apply.

Qualified applicants may be offered an interview with Allied Health/Health Occupation Department members. Final determination of part-time Respiratory Therapy Instructor assignments is contingent upon enrollment, funding and class availability.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Master's degree and two years of directly related professional experience;
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC), held for a minimum of four years;
• Eligible for licensure with the California Respiratory Care Board;
• Resident of California at the time of employment;
• Demonstrated cultural competence and sensitivity to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, neurodivergent, LGBTQIA+, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds of community college students;
• Commitment to equity-minded teaching and professional practices;
• Physical ability to perform the duties of the position;
• Demonstrated sufficient level of knowledge, skills, and competency in those content areas.
• A sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS - ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENT AND COVID 19 VACCINATIONS:

A medical certificate indicating fitness to engage in administrative work is required for new employees at the applicant's expense prior to employment.

Pursuant to LACCD Board of Trustee's Policy 2900, LACCD employees are required to provide their vaccination status or have an approved exemption in compliance with the LACCD Board of Trustees' policy. Newly hired employees will be required to provide their vaccination status prior to starting a position or, at the latest, by their position start date.

Desirable Qualifications:

• At least two years of teaching experience in a clinical or accredited respiratory care program.
• Teaching experience at the community college level both in person and online classes.
• Familiarity with accreditation standards (CoARC).
• Bilingual or multilingual proficiency.
• Experience with curriculum development or program coordination.
• Commitment to equity-minded teaching and professional practices.
• Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Teach a variety of courses in the Respiratory Therapy discipline.
• Develop and deliver curriculum that supports diverse learning styles and promotes equity and inclusion.
• Supervise and evaluate students in classroom, lab, and clinical settings.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge in respiratory care, integrating current industry practices into instruction.
• Collaborate with faculty, staff, and community partners to support student engagement and success.
• Provide culturally responsive instruction and mentorship to a diverse student population, including students from historically underserved and marginalized communities.
• Maintain a flexible schedule to meet program needs, which may include evening or weekend assignments.
• Maintain regular and effective contact with students and faculty.
• Consult with students during regularly scheduled office hours.
• Assist in curriculum revisions and new course development, department planning, and program review.
• Participate in the development and/or selection of course materials, supplies, equipment, and technology that will enhance Respiratory Care offerings.
• Participate, on an ongoing basis, in the development, assessment, and analysis of Respiratory Care student learning outcomes, program learning outcomes, and institutional learning outcomes.
• Assure compliance with the rules and regulations of the Committee on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) and the Respiratory Care Board of California (RCB) for the Associate's and Baccalaureate programs to support and maintain successful accreditation.
• Perform other duties as required by contract, collective bargaining agreement, and general institutional needs.

COMPENSATION:

The salary schedule for adjunct instructors begins at $86.85 per standard hour, plus an office hour differential of $20.32 per hour for classroom assignments. Applicants with a doctoral degree are eligible for a doctoral differential.

5. Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC),

Dates of employment.

Position title.

State if experience was full or part-time (if part-time, please indicate the weekly percentage or hours worked).

Must be signed ('wet ink' signature) of a verifiable authorized entity representative, with contact information included in case additional clarification or contact is necessary.
